What We Do

Barrington Giving Day provides necessities to children and their families within Community Unit School District 220 who either qualify as low-income or are experiencing a hardship. These families that meet the criteria are sent invitations to attend Giving Day Events throughout the year.

The Spring Event is held in April and is the kick-off to our Giving Year. We added this event to provide non-perishable food to kids and books to  encourage Summer reading. We also offer sports equipment for kids team sports and more.

New in 2023 we have added the Giving Dreams Prom Boutique. Prom is a very costly expense that families living below the poverty level struggle to afford. For this event, we are fortunate enough to use a storefront donated by The Arboretum of South Barrington that is converted into a Boutique. Teens are greeted by Personal Shoppers who assist them with selecting the perfect outfit and accessories.

Our Back to School Event is held in August where families receive gym shoes, clothing, school supplies and other much needed items for their children in order to have a successful start to their school year.

At our Winter Event in December, we provide warm coats, snow pants, boots, hats/gloves, blankets, books, toys, household paper products, baby products, food and more. Barrington Giving Day is partnering with District 220 to help families during times of crisis.

Throughout the year, the School District knows it can count on BGD to provide support to families and students experiencing homelessness or other dire needs. Working together, we have been able to help these individuals on short notice with necessities to help reduce the burden they are experiencing.

The items offered to families are a combination of donations we have collected and purchases we have made from monetary donations we receive. In order to keep on giving, we need your support. Every little bit helps.
